A recent advancement in picture framing comes in the area of mounting posters and prints. Dry mounting with the older mechanical dry mount presses used to the most risky step in the framing process. They had notoriously inaccurate thermometers and could develop hot spots that would lead to an unevenly mounted surface. Other problems were likely to develop. The poster, mounting tissue, and mount board, are sandwiched together, and placed under the platen where curl backed corners, or surface debris cannot be seen.

The new hot/cold roller laminators, like the 42 inch Bienfang 2700 can perform many of the same functions as the older, heavier and more expensive mechanical dry mount presses. They use less electricity, take up less space, and cost less. These roller laminators are also less likely to damage your customer’s artwork, because the process allows more visibility and is slower. There is also a miss feed switch which, if necessary, can stop and reverse the action and prevent damage if something goes wrong. They operate on ordinary house current, are easier to move, and take up less work space in the frame shop. They can mount and laminate at the same time, with or without heat and the rollers are silicone treated to avoid excess adhesive build up.
